In this piece of research, I will be analysing the websites of popular women's fashion magazines.

First of all, this website immediately catches the eye of readers as the large, identifiable logo of 'Good Housekeeping' has been placed right at the very top of the website in a bold white sans-serif font which stands out against the plain black background of the website. There are various drop down links just below the logo which feature various topics that are there to target their target audience. The drop down links feature the following topics; 'FASHION', 'BEAUTY', 'FOOD', 'GH 100'. This range of topics appeals to an aged woman audience which is who Good Housekeeping is aiming for. The website also features a range of articles written by Good Housekeeping, this example showing articles about Queen Elizabeth ll following her passing on the 8th of September 2022 and fashion trends - '12 of the best winter jumpers on the high street'. These articles are placed at the top of the website and are regularly refreshed in order to keep their audience informed and entertained. By including photographs paired with each article, Good Housekeeping are also offering a more visually pleasing and stimulating website for their audience, which they also reciprocate in their contents pages. In the top right hand corner of the website front page, there is a link readers can follow to subscribe to the magazine which is an example of a feature that engages an audience and allows for a higher participation within this audience.

This is another example of a website for a women's fashion lifestyle magazine. The logo 'Bazaar' is placed at the very top of the website and stands out against the black background in this area. This is because it is in a recognisable, serif font that is the colour white which stands out against this white background. Bazaar's website also features drop down links just below the logo, these ones also targeting their target audience through their categories; 'FASHION', 'BEAUTY', 'CULTURE', 'BRIDES' and 'SUSTAINABILITY'. These categories massively interest their target market (young women in the socioeconomic group AB) which will improve reader engagement. Bazaar further interest and engage their target audience with articles that are regularly updated with current news events. These articles take current news events and redirect the focus of the event onto a topic that their target audience are more likely to be interested in. For example, one article shown on their website above (screenshot taken 13th September 2022) has taken the current news event of the Queen passing away and focused on the style legacy she took part in which is more directed at the typical topics of the magazine and website.
From the analysis of these websites for lifestyle magazines I have learnt about the typical codes and conventions these websites feature. For example, these are a large logo at the top of the website that stands out and makes the website identifiable, drop down links that appeal to their target audience, current and relevant articles that appeal to their target audience, an area where audiences can subscribe to the magazine, socials for the magazine and extra content about the current issues out to purchase. In order to create a successful lifestyle website I will ensure that I reference these codes and convention but make sure that I adapt them to my specific target audience (aspirational 16-25 year olds).
